With Karl Lagerfeld at the head of the fashion house Fendi, you can be certain that the future is bright and packed with highly addictive handbags. More are coming and will come; the iron-clad proof is the latest Fendi Kan I F Shoulder Bag.

The first Fendi Kan I Bag was playful and cute, but it’s getting seriously chic now. The Fendi Kan I F Bag (it has a ‘F’ in the Kan I) is literally the next level and it can become the house’s next classic.

The Design

So what makes the Kan I F Bag so special? First it’s the newly introduced reversed F logo clasp on the front of the bag. It’s so elegant, feminine and stylish – it feels luxurious. The Kan I F Bags are usually made in solid colors, which makes the look timeless. The new modern reversed F logo is really at the center of the design.

Crafted with calf leather, which is durable and smooth. The bag comes with a front flap, but shoulder leather strap is more attention grabbing. Take a closer look at this modern styled next generation handbag, it’s refined with two-reversed F logo on the shoulder strap. The left and the right are embellished in different hardware colors, which are gold and silver. The shoulder strap can be removed or adjusted to your comfort.

The Interior

The bag opens with a magnetic closure and the interior is made with one large compartment. There is also a gusseted interior with a pocket.

Is the Cult Gaia Ark Bag Worth the Hype?

Categories:Other Brands

I have a confession to make: I used to love Instagram and now I find it a bit of a drag. There are many reasons for this: one being what a time suck it becomes, the second being how perfect everything appears at every moment, and thirdly a lot of the people that I follow when it comes to the fashion realm are wearing pretty much the same thing all the time. I find Instagram to be so perfectly curated that it feels overly staged to me (it’s not lost on me that we strive to have an attractive and fun Instagram page ourselves, but we do have some new ideas for it that we will be implementing soon) but on the flip side I can say that because of accounts I follow I’ve been able to discover some really cool items and see trends when it comes to bags people are carrying.

If you follow a lot of fashion bloggers on Instagram, you’ll see the same items being posted by many accounts. This can be for a variety of reasons including they’re being paid and/or they were gifted at the same time. Since we are much more of a niche market, our account obviously focuses on bags (and if you’re not already, you should follow us). I’m always looking for new bags and one bag that I continued to see on many accounts across Instagram for months now is the Cult Gaia Ark Bag. Amanda wrote about this back in April and since then the love for this bag hasn’t seemed to fizzle. The Ark bag is entirely different from any bag out there right now, and I wanted to buy one and try it out to see if this bag is worth the hype.

First off, this bag sells out often. I ordered mine via Net-A-Porter but this bag is rarely in stock and right now the classic style is sold out but there are really cool options for pre-order at Moda Operandi if you’re interested. The Cult Gaia Ark Bag has been splattered across my Instagram feed – many bloggers that I follow have this bag and carry it often. The style is entirely different other designer bags right now with its semi-circle shape that was inspired by Japanese picnic baskets.

Let me state the obvious: this bag is really cool. It’s different, unique and if you carry this bag, you won’t have many people confusing it for another brand, rather they may ask you who makes the bag because they want one too. But this bag is also very specific; there’s a specific time and place and way to carry it, and it’s not for everyone or every occasion. I have a really hard time figuring out when it is that I can carry this bag since Millie is with me at all times pretty much. If Millie is with me, this bag simply does not work. There’s no shoulder strap and it has to be handheld in a way that really uses your hand (I know that sounds silly, but I mean how your hand has to grasp the bag requires all of that hand’s attention to keep the bag from falling).

The Ark Bag is lightweight as it’s made from bamboo, but the fact that there’s sizable open slats, the lack of an optional shoulder strap, and the way you have to hold it, makes it hard to actually carry a lot and do so comfortably. This bag is the definition of a hand held bag and that isn’t always easy to do. I’m a chronic over-packer. If you look into any of my bags you’ll see that I don’t change out the items enough and I always carry random maybe-I’ll-need-this junk. It’s a fault of mine but it’s only gotten worse since having Millie. And when you have a bag that you can look into, I don’t think you want oversized items or random receipts floating around. You want this bag to look cool and light and make everyone think you’re so low maintenance you only need a couple items with you at all times. For example, I put my keys in the bag, because my bag definetly always carries my keys -and guess what? The keys didn’t fall out but individual keys started to slide through the openings. Are other people putting their keys in a perfect pouch when they carry this bag? Where are their keys? Am I simply not cool enough to carry a see-through bag that needs to be curated well to make sense? Come to think of it, on most of the images I’ve seen on Instagram with people carrying this bag, I rarely can tell if they’re actually carrying anything inside. You can see how I planned out what to carry inside of mine, so while it was items I needed, it was also curated to look good through the bag.

Is any bag worth this much work to make it look good? I took this bag with us for a mini stay-cation in Miami Beach a few weeks ago. Walking around the hotel, I could carry this bag and it fit right in. The bag is effortlessly cool and such a different look from what you typically see. For how impractical it is for day-to-day use for me, I found myself loving it in spite of that. I liked how easily it can be paired with denim or a casual black dress and look effortlessly fashion forward. And though it isn’t highly practical for day-to-day use for me, it is a great bag for summer and those who live in a tropical locale like we do. One of the other reasons I can easily get behind this bag is the price – it’s not outrageous and that makes it an easy novelty bag to own. If I am going to buy a bag that I consider a novelty, I am not looking to spend a fortune, and this bag isn’t a fortune. There are two sizes, small and large, and in addition to the typically sold out bamboo, this bag comes in a variety of colored acrylic options now as well. The small size measures 11″ x 3″ x 8″ while the large measures 12.5″ x 4″ x 10.5″.

The bamboo is priced at $128 and $138 respectively. Nabbing the bamboo version of this bag proves difficult, as that is the version that sells out quickly. I happened to see it and grab it and if you want one Moda Operandi has so many options for pre-order.

Gucci Dionysus Super Mini Bag

Categories:Other Brands

You don’t typically see the words ‘super’ and ‘mini’ in a same sentence, for the simple fact that they are polar opposites of the other. But place them one after the other and you’ll get a completely different context with ‘super mini’, one that simply means exceptionally mini. And that’s just what the folks at Gucci had in mind when they came up with this bag (well, it’s more of a wallet-on-chain) under the Dionysus family of small leather goods.

Identified by the textured tiger head closure which references the Greek god Dionysus, these mini bags take come in at an adorable size of 16.5 cm by 10 cm. Yes, it’s that small, which only adds to its oh-my-god-I-can’t-resist-picking-this-up allure.

Unsnap the closure and you’ll find a single inner compartment that easily fits an iPhone7 (sorry if you have anything bigger), with a bit of room left over for the most essential of cards and a small stack of cash. Oh, let’s not forget your keys, which you can attach onto the inner keyring within. While that might not seem much, technically that’s all you ever need for lunch, an afternoon tea, or a night out with the girls, right?

Finished with a 60 cm chain strap drop, you can sling this little wonder over the shoulder or across your body comfortably, keeping you hands-free as you shop with that cup of Boost Juice (or Gong Cha, or Koi) in hand. Priced at SGD1010 for the one in GG Supreme Canvas and SGD1060for the ones in leather and embellished with Swarovski crystals adorning the textured tiger head, Gucci’s Dionsyus Super Mini Bag is now available over at Gucci boutiques at ION Orchard, Marina Bay Sands and Paragon.

Saint Laurent Fall 2017 Tuxedo Box Bag

Categories:Other Brands

No stranger to this blog, the Tuxedo Box Bag makes its comeback for Fall 2017 with all new colours and textures, plus patchwork details that definitely jazz up its otherwise simple, straightforward boxy shell.

Each bag’s patchwork detail differs from the next, so it all boils down to which of the trio catches your eye, each with its exotic skin design and pattern. For starters, there’s the lizard skin Tuxedo Box Bag that essentially features a patchwork of vintage cars in predominantly red, black and grey, that’s also embellished with round metal studs. With the hardware in oxidised nickel working perfectly against its edgy print, it is well-suited for the cool Saint Laurent girl that carries it.

The other equally snazzy print comes in a snakeskin (python, to be specific) body that’s mixed with colours like beige, black, blue and green all juxtaposed beautifully into an animal abstract; there’s a panther and what looks like a snake on the front. Last but not least, there’s one in matte black that features a star patchwork print with a mix of croc and leather that’s no less alluring.

With a 53 cm drop sling strap on the 20 cm by 17 cm box clutch, they will retail for SGD5580 each in Singapore. A pretty penny no doubt, but when you factor in all the exotic skins carefully cut and assembled by hand onto each bag, and the fact that they are definitely more collector’s pieces than just casual bags, you’ll understand why it costs this much.

Dior has a unique mini bag collection and it’s the Croisiere Line. The Croisiere is actually the Wallet On Chain or the Clutch on Chain version of Dior. The styles mirror the design of the most popular contemporary or the iconic handbags. And J’Adior might be the new guy in the house, but it’s already attracting a lot of popularity. And Dior is also lifting this collection to the iconic status, so it’s no surprising that the J’Adior is added to the Croisiere Collection.

The J’Adior Croisiere Wallet is designed with a classic look. It features the same functionality as its larger version like the slot handclasp, which is the extra leather on the front flap where you can slide your hand through it to carry as a clutch. It also comes with a vintage look lady-like chain for shoulder carry or cross body. The fine aged gold-tone also adds a touch of classic to the whole look, but it’s balanced by the large J’Adior logo on the front.

Available in different leather like grained calfskin and crinkled calfskin, the interior is made with one large compartment, 12 credit card slots, 2 flat pockets and 1 zipped pocket. So for a Wallet On Chain Bag, it’s quite a well-structured and roomy small bag. The chain is 120 cm chain and it measures 21 x 11 cm, Calfskin leather is priced at 920 euro, 840 GBP, ₩1,400,000 WON and the Crinkled Calfskin is €1020 euro, £910 GBP, ₩1,400,000 WON via Dior boutiques.

So what do you think about this design?

Chanel Métiers d’Art: The Art Of Accessories

Categories:Other Brands

As we continue to celebrate Metiers d’Art, part 2 of this ongoing series in honouring the 9 ateliers continues with these 3 that make finished pieces most of us are more familiar with, pieces that we can slip into – gloves, hats and shoes. Each a dedicated atelier that creates exclusive pieces for Chanel as well as for their own clientele, you’re looking at over 300 years of fine craftsmanship between Causse, Maison Michel and Massaro.

Founded in 1892, Causse still produces over 25,000 pairs of gloves annually for all of Chanel’s shows, including Haute Couture and RTW collections. With over 40 employees, this speciality atelier continues to produce chic and cutting-edge gloves that are the perfect accompaniment to elevate the everyday outfit. Bruno Pavlovsky, Chanel’s President of Fashion, was quoted back in 2012 when Causse joined the Paraffection (which happens to be the holding company the 9 ateliers fall under), ‘Maison Causse has rare traditional experience that we wanted to preserve. Through this acquisition, we are sustaining excellence in glove-making in France.’

Maison Michel
A famed milliner founded in 1963, Maison Michel crafts almost everything your head would ever need, and that includes berets, bonnets, cloches, toques, turbans and even more recently, caps with cat ears. Over the years, Maison Michel has grown to be a fashion favourite and has a number of other signatures, including hats made out of stitched straw (first introduced by Maison Michel) that was all the rage in 1975. A time-consuming process that requires many hours by hand from working with the raw materials, shaping them and reshaping them before it’s finally set, they have their own stand-alone boutique near Chanel’s own rue Cambon flagship selling their iconic styles.

Another historied house founded in 1894, Massaro creates shoes that are in tune with the spirit of times blended with timeless shoe silhouettes. In its very small workshop, the craftsmen continue to make shoes by hand for both selected Haute Couture styles for Chanel, and their own customers who have their exact feet measurements crafted in wood which are kept for posterity. Continuing with its masterful creations till this day, Massaro has a made-to-measure service for both men and women that allows one to customise footwear (almost anything can be created so long as the heart desires) that will fit perfectly.
